The project was officially launched on Thursday by Theyab bin Mohamed Bin Zayed, president of the court of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi. When completed, the 17,000 square meter space in a custom-built facility will strengthen Abu Dhabi’s position as a cultural hub and inspire the next generation of artists, creators and innovators.

The preview of the upcoming installation at Mamsa Al Saadiyat will be open to residents starting tomorrow, June 24 to July 17.

At the launch, Theyab bin Mohamed was accompanied by Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), Saood Al Hosani, Undersecretary DCT Abu Dhabi, Saleh Al Geziry, Managing Director of tourism at DCT Abu Dhabi, Toshiyuki Inoko, founder of teamLab, and Takashi Kudo, director of communications of teamLab.

For the teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi concept, DCT Abu Dhabi partnered with lead island developer Miral to develop the architecture and facilities. Construction of the project is expected to be completed in 2024.

The installation will be located between the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, representing a bridge between history, culture and creativity.

Visitors will be invited to open their minds and embark on a journey through teamLab’s new concept of environmental phenomena, which offers new perspectives on the world. The works of art presented, which will be created through an extensive process of experimentation, will be shaped by changing environments.

The architecture of the facility has been designed exclusively and will provide the artworks with an environment in which to evolve freely and organically while providing unique experiences for each visitor.

teamLab members and ultra-technologists include artists, programmers, engineers, CG animators, mathematicians and architects, and they have previously created art for global institutions like the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles and the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney. Officials said the Abu Dhabi offering will similarly feature unique artwork and experiences in the UAE.

“Curiosity and imagination are at the core of who we are as human beings, sparking all of our discoveries, inventions and innovations across the millennia. Sitting at the intersection of art, technology, nature and high-tech fantasy, the Phenomena Abu Dhabi Lab team at Saadiyat Cultural District will deliver a world of boundless wonder and creativity to all who visit, encouraging the new perspectives that are so essential to a future flourishing… Providing a journey that will trigger the senses, fuel curiosity, spark the imagination and ignite a thirst for knowledge, teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi fully supports our commitment to inspiring a new generation of innovators and creators in the emirate and across the world. beyond,” Al Mubarak said.
