The Institute of ICT Professionals Ghana is set to open its long-awaited digital design and creative coding center in the first week of May 2021.

The digital installation will be open to the public, including artists and creators, educators, education and culture policy makers, local businesses in the cultural industry in Ghana and around the world, as well as to German cultural workers and developers of digital creative tools.

All people from all walks of life will be welcomed in the establishment from Monday, May 3, 2021.

The Ghana ICT Professionals Institute (IIPGH) aims to equip the public, professionals and students with the skills in emerging technologies needed for entrepreneurship and employment in today’s rapidly changing technological world. hui.

In addition, it uses the expertise at its disposal to advise the government and other stakeholders on best practices and public policies that would enable the use of ICTs in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Executive Director of the Institute of ICT Professionals Ghana, David Gowu, said: “ICT is an essential skill in life. We focus on improving the quality of training by expanding the range of teaching and learning strategies, meeting individual needs while using participatory methods and motivating the learner. Thus, the hub will offer the opportunity to improve design and creation skills and work towards globally recognized functional skills in ICT, with an emphasis on early start (from 8 years old).

“Although the first thing that comes to mind when it comes to art, creative coding is revolutionizing what art is and can be. As we move into a more digital world, creative coding perhaps the current art movement, we need to communicate the main societal challenges we face as technology advances, ”he added.

Code it! is a learning platform where beginners and kids can learn programming easily and in a fun way. Code it! teaches basic programming concepts through online courses, live webinars, and other kid-friendly formats. Code it! is designed for independent learning at home, as well as for use at school.

While TinkerToys focuses on teaching children and youth about 3D building, with the help of its 3D building program, children as young as eight (8) years old can learn to build in 3D .

The Hub is designed as an open space for all interested, in which artistic and creative expression can be learned, tested and taught using digital tools. As there is a great need and a great interest in digital tools and new technologies in Ghana, both for artistic production and for education, as well as for the development of new business models and the opening of new markets , the hub as an exhibition hall, aims to encourage artists, educators and multipliers to use innovative digital technologies for creative processes and to demonstrate the possibilities of their use in education.

In the Coding Hub, participants, including children and youth, can work with the software to create their own utility objects. Not only do children learn skills in creativity, independence and critical thinking, but they also learn technology and 3D printing.

By combining learning and creation, the projects become fun, while also meeting the requirements of the curriculum – the best part that kids can print and marvel at their constructions on site!

“We are delighted that the Coding Hub provides participants with a great addition to their daily school and work life,” said Mr. Gowu.

By using the 3D construction curriculum in the classroom, a wide range of curriculum learning objectives in various subjects can be achieved. As the program is based on content analysis and teaching skills, they are convinced that the 3D construction program can support both the creative learning process and the mathematical / computer learning process.

The 3D Building Program is an object-based design program that allows children and young people to operate with a wide variety of geometric bodies or prefabricated objects, with plug-in connections, (fantastic) figures and models created.

The software can be used for thematic projects (Minecraft, Marvel, Lego,…) as well as for content related to the curriculum. Children can build freely or use the building instructions.
