The University of the Arts London invites applications from research-oriented, student-centred scholar-practitioners. We have the opportunity for an academic/practitioner to play a leading role in shaping research at London College of Fashion’s School of Design and Technology and contribute to excellence in teaching and of learning.
The School of Design and Technology’s portfolio is based on the Merged Metiérs philosophy emphasizing that sustainability, digital technologies (wearable technology, smart textiles and digital manufacturing) and Better Lives values are transforming the current practice and industry of the fashion. This has led to widening the scope of innovation in fashion design by integrating sustainability, artisanal technology, creative arts, entrepreneurship and digital engineering, expanding designers’ toolbox beyond borders. of fashion. You will lead the development of collaborative links with national and international partners in academia and industry and the development of external funding applications. Your duties will also include supervising and mentoring PhD students in research, as appropriate.
As well as undertaking your own research practice, you will work closely with the Digital Anthropology Lab on the development of digital design research and knowledge exchange projects. You will have teaching responsibilities for digitally oriented masters programs such as MA Innovative Fashion Production, MA Digital Garment and Pattern Cutting and MA Fashion Futures. You will also be responsible for developing the curriculum and encouraging staff to develop their CE research and practice. You will participate in the development of the MA Innovative Textiles Technologies, starting in September 2023.

You will have significant experience of academic leadership, through your collaborative research and involvement with relevant professional bodies and societies. You will have the ability to ensure the implementation of the department’s strategic plan in line with the College’s ambitions, leading up to the move to Stratford, and to engender positive relationships with College and University staff. You are expected to make a significant contribution to the teaching, research and REF profile of the College and to provide continued leadership in your discipline. There are opportunities to develop innovative pedagogy and collaborative research and/or knowledge exchange projects.
